miniMusic EarTrain release |
Each level of EarTrain introduces new intervals or more intervals to choose from, becoming more difficult as the user's skill improves. Tapping on the correct train car increases the train's speed, while a wrong guess will waste fuel. A practice level is also included so that users can freely explore all of the intervals at their own pace before playing the game. EarTrain encompasses all musical intervals ranging from the minor second through the perfect octave.
Bryan Bogue, a teacher in Spokane, Washington, has been using a pre-release version of EarTrain in his classroom for several months now. "EarTrain was great once we were able to use headphones with it. Level 5 was always the most challenging for the kids and that was a good thing," says Bogue about an early preview of the application. The headphone support he refers to is EarTrain's ability to use several enhanced sound options including the polyphonic sound chip found in many Sony Clie handhelds, or playing notes in MIDI format, letting users connect to electronic music keyboards, samplers and tone modules. Bryan Bogue adds: "You're on the right track (pun intended)!"
EarTrain is compatible with any Palm Powered handheld running Palm OS version 3.0 or later and fully supports the newest Palm OS 5 handhelds. This includes handhelds made by Palm, Sony, Handspring, and other Palm OS licensees. A new version of miniMusic's popular music sight reading software, BugBand, has also been released. It adds full support for all of the latest handheld models to this fun educational game. Along with miniMusic's existing NotePad notation software and BeatPad pattern sequencer, these new educational releases bring the entire miniMusic software library up to speed with equivalent hardware support, compatibility and requirements.
